The NHL and NHLPA announce anti-racism and inclusion efforts

The NHL has announced plans to tackle racism and increase inclusion and diversity across the league.
The NHL and NHLPA will work with the Hockey Diversity Alliance to implement a hockey development program for BIPOC children in the Greater Toronto Area. A similar program is TBA for the US. There will also be mandatory inclusion and diversity training for players and staff as part of the 2020-2021 season.
Conversations related to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion will be conducted at the club level. These sessions hosted by Kim Davis and Brian Blake are meant to be about self reflection and navigation of topics about the varying levels of diversity. Coaches and GMs will receive a comparable program.
Councils and Committees created include:
- The Executive Inclusion Council co-chaired by Kim Pegula and Gary Bettman; consisting of team owners, former players, as well as club and league executives
- The Player Inclusion Committee co-chaired by PK Subban and Anton Carter; consisting of current and former NHL and Women’s National Team players
- The Fan Inclusion Committee and Youth Hockey Inclusion Committee; both of which will aid in developing solutions to improve the game.
