Welcome to the new weekly feature on TLN, Player Power
Rankings (More like Powerless Rankings, amirite?) Seriously, the Leafs have
been awful, and what better time to start judging them on a weekly basis. I
assure you with the rankings I am 100% right in my analysis, as I have watched
hockey for a long time.

1. Phil Kessel
He
played in the All-Star game, and while Phil didn’t get any points in a game
that set the record for points. Kessel deserves credit for being in the least embarrassing
game involving a Leaf in the past week. Also he got one of the two goals so
that ain’t hay.

2. James van Riemsdyk

If
there was one guy who really stepped up in Phaneuf’s absence, it’s Morgan.

Leafs have a goaltender who finished the week with a .944% save percentage.

5. Nazem Kadri
Déjà
vu . Kadri and Kessel didn’t work in one game, Kessel back with Bozak, Kadri

6. Tyler Bozak

ranking might see a little high to some of you, but please hear me out. He did
have the nice bank pass off the boards this week, which counts as one of the
few highlights for the team and also…

7. Mike Santorelli
Remember
when Santorelli was putting up points at the beginning over the year when he
was playing centre? Sure makes it confusing that he’s playing wing on a team
that insists on dressing Trevor Smith. Anyway, he’s ranked 6th in
hopes that we see more of him before he’s traded.

8. Cody Franson
This
week the Leafs reportedly offered Franson
a multiyear deal valued at $4.6million annual. Compared to being paired with
Korbinian Holzer that would likely be the high point of Franson’s week.

9. Jake Gardiner
Gardiner,
not surprisingly, is one of the most improved Leafs under Horachek. He’s seeing
increased icetime, but of course still makes memorable defensive zone mistakes.

During a week in which he gave up a goal from past centre ice, and lost to Devils in a
shootout, Bernier was still one of the bright spots on this team.

It’s
been a tough week for Winnik. First he had the high of the Penguins
making an offer on him. Then the low of learning the Jets have
interest in him.

A
healthy scratch this week and held pointless in 2015, Somehow Panik is still
middle of the pack by Leafs standards.

Peter
Holland returned and with it, the possibility that Trevor Smith might get
waived. Unfortunately Smith is still here, and the benefit of having an actual
NHL centre back in the lineup didn’t seem the help the Leafs too much either.

Between

Despite
seeing time with Kadri and Kessel, Uncle Leo was barely noticeable in his
return to the Leafs lineup this week.

Granberg
made his season debut this week. Hope it was exciting for him because the rest
of us are still confused why Loov or Percy didn’t get the call. His hit on
Voracek shows that Toronto finally has a Leaf interested in stepping up to fill
the void that Ryan Hollweg left.

Not
playing is the best thing Robidas can do for this team, so he’s still got to be
ahead of Holzer, Smith, and Booth. It’s bad when I’m hanging my hopes on Eklund
rumours.
