Toronto Marlies assistant coach Rob Davison suffered seizure, released from hospital

Toronto Marlies assistant coach Rob Davison has been released from a Texas hospital a day after suffering a prolonged grand mal seizure, the organization said Saturday.

The incident happened Friday night in the visitor’s dressing room at the HEB Center in Cedar Park, Texas, as the Marlies were preparing to take on the Texas Stars.

Davison, 39, was rushed to hospital and the Marlies forfeited the game. He was kept overnight for observation and his condition has since stabilized, the Maple Leafs said.

The seizure was witnessed by both players and staff leaving the entire team in a state of shock, Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas said in a statement Friday night.

The organization said Davison is set to return to Toronto today along with a member of the Marlies medical team. He will be away from the team indefinitely on medical leave.

Davison has been with the club since he was hired in July 2017. An NHLer of over 500 games, the former 4th round draft pick launched his coaching career in 2014-2015 with EC Salzburg of the EBEL. He spent two seasons there, before one year with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL.
