Toronto Picks Andrew Nielsen at 65th Overall

The Leafs have selected defenceman Andrew Nielsen from the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL with their 65th overall pick.
Nielsen is a little off the board here, as he wasn’t even included in Pronman’s top 100 and was ranked as low as 120th by International Scouting Service (ISS).
Scouting Report
For a scouting report, we go to Cody Nickolet, an authority on prospects in the WHL, who had some things to say about Nielsen at his site, Dub From Above.
Nielsen is a big two-way blueliner and a guy who would likely be designated as the Hurricanes number one defenceman if you had to choose one. While his skating doesn’t look overly clean or crisp, he gets around at a decent pace with some power, can move the puck with some efficiency and plays with an edge. His 0.43 points-per-game won’t blow anyone away but it is quite respectable relative to the rest of the WHL draft class on the blueline.
This obviously doesn’t seem like a pick for high offensive upside, so we’ll see how Nielsen puts together his game to try and become a solid defensive blue liner in the Leafs’ organization.
