Toronto Selects Nicholas Robertson 53rd Overall

Toronto has finally made its first selection in the 2019 NHL draft, and it’s Nicholas Robertson from the Peterborough Petes.

This 53rd overall selection is Toronto’s own second round selection. Roberston is a smaller forward with Peterborough at 5’9″ and 161 pounds. The Leafs have never shied away from selecting small, skilled players and Nicholas Roberston certainly fits that bill.

He scored at a point-per-game pace this year with 55 points in 54 regular season games. Nicholas is also the younger brother of Dallas Stars prospect Jason Robertson, for those who like to know about family ties like I do.

Another interesting element of Robertson is that he’s one of the youngest players in this draft class. His birthday is September 11th, 2001 (jeez. what a day to be born), making him just four days from the cutoff for being part of next year’s draft.

Robinson wasn’t the only one to rank Robertson highly, as most places had him ranked as a first round talent in this draft. It’s certainly surprising that the Leafs found him at 53rd overall, and they’re likely very pleased with this.

Toronto’s next pick in this draft is their 3rd round pick at 84th overall, so let’s stay tuned to see who they add there.
