The Toronto Six are making waves and getting ready for the 2021 NWHL bubble season to begin by signing Emily Fluke to the team today, as the NWHL announced on its Twitter page:
Emily Fluke is an American forward, born in Bourne, Maine, who has been in the NWHL for three seasons, competing with the Connecticut Whale and, most recently, the Boston Pride. The Pride were on their way to competing for the 2020 NWHL Championship Isobel Cup against the Minnesota Whitecaps, but the game was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. The Pride were named in-season champions, and Fluke played a significant role in getting them there, but the Isobel Cup was not awarded.
Prior to the end of the 2019-20 season, Fluke participated in the NWHL’s All-Star game, competing with Pride teammates Kristina Putigna and Kaleigh Fratkin for Team Packer against Boston Pride scoring leader Jillian Dempsey’s team, who ultimately won the All-Star game. In the skills competition, Fluke was a part of the team-wide shootout which Team Packer also won, on their way to winning the skills competition overall. She also played in the 2018-19 All-Star game in just her second season out of college.
Fluke scored 27 points in 23 games for the Pride in the 2019-20 season, leading to her All-Star game selection. Last season was a step forward in Fluke’s career as her point totals improved significantly from the previous two seasons where she scored 11 points in 16 games in both.
From the NWHL’s media release, here’s what Head Coach and Team President Digit Murphy had to say about her:
“Emily is a seasoned veteran in this league, and she will play any role asked of her,” Head Coach and President Digit Murphy said. “She is a winner both in life and in hockey and that is exactly what we want in a player. We are excited to have her as part of our organization and can’t wait to have her on the ice to help with our quest for an Isobel Cup.”
Prior to joining the NWHL, Fluke played college hockey in Vermont at Middlebury College, which is a Division III NCAA team. In her Senior year at Middlebury, she amassed 44 points in just 28 games, good for top of the team and 6th in the division.
Fluke is now the 12th forward named to Toronto’s roster for the upcoming bubble season, and she will undoubtedly be relied on as a veteran presence and scorer for the team.
