Total Hockey G.O.A.T.: Five Datsyuks versus Five Ovechkins, Who Wins?

5 years agoYou thought it was dead, but this August downtime filler series continues. It’s time for more of the ridiculous five on five hypothetical series. Today we’ve got sort of an unpredictable one, as the Ovechkin quintuplets take on the Datsyuk quintuplets.
This one is interesting, because while Ovechkin has clearly had the more notable career, Datsyuk’s two-way game and absurd hands probably makes his team of five a true force. Still, five Ovechkins running around out there hammering the puck would be a lot of chaotic fun. The voting will be hard to predict.
So far we’ve had four polls, with Malkin, Forsberg, Matthews, and McDavid all going through their opponents.
Again, we’ll go over the notes about how this fun little thought experiment works.
We’re attempting to see who fans believe is the greatest player of all time through a “Total Hockey” bracket. In this thought experiment we’re pinning five copies of one player versus five of another and asking voters who will win. This bracket is light on the old-days players. Only if a guy really stood out and had a high level of physicality, like Gordie Howe, would they get in against new era players. So you’ll see that from the 90s-to-present is well-represented. But don’t worry, all the true top guys are in there. Also, we’ll assume these teams are all playing with the same level of goalie and the players are at their peaks in their careers.
