Welcome, all to our third instalment of Tunesday! If you’re new around here this is the article where I dissect 5-7 songs that describe how the leafs played In the two weeks prior, for this edition, it’s three. It is a companion piece to the Not Enough of Blue playlist which is available everywhere you stream your music. As always it will be linked at the end of the article. Keeping with the theme of our second edition it’s an overall good vibe. The Toronto Maple Leafs feel different this year and their play up until now has proved it. 12-2-0 in November, 7 straight road wins, another California sweep, this team is doing amazing things right now. Let’s take a look at some music that reflects that.

Up first we have the classic that is Dream On – Aerosmith. This song in particular represents the tough times that Aerosmith once went through. So although they were just beginning and obviously not succeeding musically, not selling albums and such. This song was a way for them to hold themselves accountable. This was a way of saying hold on to the feeling and the passion that drives you, it will take you where you want to go.

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, and sing for the tear
Sing it with me, if it’s just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Dream on
Dream on
Dream on
Dream until the dream come true

The desire to be somebody, along with the fact that they have something to prove is why this song resonates a lot with the team’s current state. They have worked hard to be where they are. Let’s hope that emotion takes them far.
Up next on the list you have Dreams and Nightmares – Meek Mill. Disregarding the fact that he’s from Philadelphia and mentions the Flyers in his song, it’s a great listen. It wasn’t chosen for a specific part, but instead for the overall emotion that it encompasses. It’s so easy for a dream to become a nightmare. One sudden break be it an injury, lack of motivation or even lack of trust can end the dream just like it did in the song. Now is not the time to let yourself down by giving in to the negativity that others may think about you.
Our third song is We Are Young – fun. A song about living life to its fullest. A song that embraces camaraderie and puts an emphasis on strong relationships and having each other’s backs. Even through mistakes, those people will still support you through a tough time.
Tonight
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun
This is a young team, they need to be in the moment with every aspect of the game. We saw them do this especially at the beginning of the season when all the media wanted to do was dwell on the fact that they lost to Montreal.  They recognized their own potential and needed to stay in the moment when the rest of the world wanted to remain in the past. With regards to how well they’re doing, they are proving to the world of hockey the shining stars that they are.
Song number 4 is The Nights – Avicii. A song with great energy and an even better message that goes beyond this hockey team. Live your life without fear. Put the best version of yourself out into this world and don’t pay attention to what others think. The actual things you do in your life will never die so make the best of it.
Another classic pop song that comes in at number 5 on the list is So What – Pink. Yes, this is technically a break-up song, but that’s not why it was chosen. While listening you recognize a huge change in energy. There is a huge emphasis on confidence and not caring about what others think about you. There are two parts of the song that come to mind.
I got a brand new attitude
And I’m gonna wear it tonight
As well as the first bit of the chorus,
So what?
I’m still a rock star
I got my rock moves
And I don’t need you
This brings me directly to the Matthews quote from a couple of days ago.
He’s not malicious with his words, but he’s shown that the media isn’t at the forefront of his thoughts. His game is his priority, always. This comment was so refreshing because time and time again people talk about how hockey players sound like drones, or they have no personality. Auston shows people this is not the case with a new energy that viewers and fans aren’t used to.
