WAIVERS YELLING: ERIC FEHR

ACCORDING TO NOTED CAPSLOCK FAN RENAUD LAVOIE THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS HAVE WAIVED ERIC FEHR.

FEHR SEEMED TO BE LOSING THE BATTLE OF THE FOURTH LINE CENTERS TO DOMINIC MOORE, AND WITH THE ADDITION OF ROMAN POLAK THE LEAFS COULD BE LOOKING TO SHED SOME SALARY AND CONTRACT FROM THEIR LINEUP.

Eric Fehr has a $2M salary and cap hit according to NHLNumbers.com, it’s hard to imagine that Eric Fehr is going to be claimed unless one of the GM’s is his uncle. It’s most likely that Eric Fehr will be a Marlie tomorrow and most of the days after that.

Someone could claim Fehr and the Leafs would find themselves with $2M worth of cap space instead of $1M. They’d also get another player contract available to them, which is a nice thing after burning through one on Roman Polak.

We saw it with Calvin Pickard, and after he cleared waivers he was immediately traded to the Leafs. Maybe there is some team out there that is looking for forward depth and thinks that Eric Fehr is the answer. They just want to give him a bit of time in the AHL before bringing him up. Okay, this is probably not going to happen, but wouldn’t it be nice if it did?

If I’m pulling out my crystal ball, I’m going to guess that it’s entirely possible that Calle Rosen makes a return to the Leafs. He was the quick and easy demotion to make room for Roman Polak joining the team, and now that Fehr is on his way down, they can bring him back up and Babcock can figure out what combination of Rosen, Borgman, Carrick, and Polak he likes the most. (The correct answer is Borgman and Carrick btw)

Other more interesting options would be Miro Aaltonen getting a chance to platoon with Dominic Moore for the fourth line center role or the Leafs might have seen enough of Freddy Gauthier to want him back with the big club to see if he can step into the 4th line center role permanently after fighting for the job late last season.

It’s probably going to be Rosen coming up.

One less forward in the press box means a better chance that we’ll get to see Josh Leivo play hockey. I wouldn’t assume that anything is imminent on this front, but I stand by my belief that he’ll get into the lineup before game 10.
