After scoring just once in his first 17 games of the season, Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman @Morgan Rielly added two more goals in the first two periods against the New York Rangers on Thursday evening.
Rielly’s second goal of the night was one for the highlight reel. With the Leafs on the power play, Rielly took a pass at the left point from @Auston Matthews and proceeded to drag the puck around @Jacob Trouba before firing it past Rangers goaltender @Igor Shesterkin.
@John Tavares picked up the second assist on Rielly’s third goal of the season, which came at the 10:59 mark of the second period. Here’s the video of the play, as posted to Twitter by the official Sportsnet account:
Rielly now has three goals and 13 points in 18 games with the Maple Leafs this season. @Wayne Simmonds and @Michael Bunting recorded the helpers on Rielly’s first goal of Thursday’s game, which came just 3:41 into the opening frame.
The Leafs currently lead the Rangers by a 2-1 score early in the third period, with @Dryden Hunt getting New York on the board at the 3:30 mark of the final frame.
