WE GOT THE (CALDER) CUP!

Marlies win! Andreas Johnsson wins the Butterfield Trophy despite missing the first two rounds of the playoffs! Marlies should have had a shutout but in fact Texas received a pity goal from the officials!

Luckily, the Marlies were better than the refs and put together a dominant performance in the AHL’s first Game 7 in nearly a decade and a half.

AND SO… WE’RE CALDER CUP CHAMPIONS! For the very first time your Marlies are Calder Cup Champions!

HERE IS A QUICK SUMMARY.

GOAL ONE:

The first goal came courtesy of — who else — Andreas Johnsson, who dove across the slot to pounce on a loose puck ten minutes into the game.

GOAL TWO:

Imagine leaving some guy all alone in the slot in a Game 7 with only a few seconds standing between you and intermission. Mason Marchment buries for the 2-0 lead.
