A bit of unfortunate news out of Leafs camp today as we have learned that William Nylander is not yet full vaccinated.
“Obviously you can see I have a mask on,” Nylander said. “I’m not fully vaccinated yet. I had a couple [of] medical things I had [to] take care of. I’ll be fully vaccinated by the beginning of the season.”
“I just wanted to do the right thing. I think being vaccinated is gonna help everybody, help the team and achieve our end goal. It was [a] pretty easy choice,” Nylander said.
While it doesn’t seem that Nylander is aggressively opposed to the vaccine, and might have some reason for the recent delay, which we won’t speculate on, it has been four months and there was likely plenty of time to get things taken care of well in advance of the Leafs training camp.
We have already seen the Columbus Blue Jackets decide to send Zac Rinaldo to their AHL affiliate because of his refusal of being vaccinated, the Islanders are reportedly sending a player to Europe for the same reason, and the Oilers are truly a mixed bag as Duncan Keith was vaccine hesitant and will miss part of training camp because of his delay in getting vaccinated, but the Oilers also have another player that is not willing to be vaccinated that they will be accommodating this season.
As the fourth wave of COVID-19 continues to impact us all, these decisions are unfortunate, but at least William Nylander will be compliant soon.
