The Leafs netminders could not avoid injuries for the entire year, as it was announced earlier today that Frederik Andersen is out day-to-day with an injury.
.@SportChek Player Alert: The @MapleLeafs have recalled goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo from the @TorontoMarlies (AHL) on an emergency basis. Details >> atnhl.com/2Vg5RmK #LeafsForever
Andersen has been one of the league’s best goaltenders this season, stopping shots with a .923 sv% and completely robbing some games for his team. He is currently second in the league in Goals Saved Above Average, with 14.36, already surpassing his number from the previous season. His short-term loss is unfortunate, but not lethal.
As a result of the Andersen injury, 25-year-old goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo has been called up to potentially make his NHL debut in the next couple of games. He currently has a brutal .866 sv% with the Marlies this season, so everything is unstable for his game right now.
He was loaned to the Chicago Wolves last season and posted a .914 sv% in 28 games for the club, so this season isn’t indicative of his skillset.
As for the game tonight against the Islanders, Garret Sparks might be making his first NHL back-to-back starts.
