Dear Oilers Nation, Leafs Nation can relate.
But honestly, we know how you feel.
Sadly, we’re all too familiar with that type of performance from the Florida Panthers, especially in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Talk about PTSD.
We kicked off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by dissecting Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. Spoiler: It was all Florida. Once again, it was the normal combatants doing their thing. Sam Bennett was awesome, so was Brad Marchand. And now, the Panthers are two wins away from repeating as Cup champs. That said, we both expect a bounce-back performance from the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night in Game 4. It’s time to see what McDavid and company are really made of.
After that, we discussed the latest news and notes surrounding the Maple Leafs. Unsurprisingly, the Marner hoopla has nearly reached a fever pitch with three weeks to go until July 1st. The latest reports suggest Los Angeles could be preparing a monster offer for the All-star winger. Meantime, news broke on Monday of a potential three team deal involving Toronto, Vegas, and Carolina at the trade deadline. Apparently, Marner would’ve been shipped to Sin City and Rantanen would’ve landed in Toronto. Whatever. It’s time to move on from all that talk. It is what it is.
Then, brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, Prime Monday Night Hockey host Andi Petrillo dropped by the show. After leading off with some talk about the Prime broadcasts, we hit on various different Leafs topics. Andi weighed in on the Stanley Cup Final and the plethora of players that have been linked to the Leafs (Re. Bennett, Marchand, Perry). Additionally, we discussed the pending DNA change and what she would do with the likes of Marner and Tavares. Lastly, Petrillo detailed her new book, which is set to be released in the fall.
To wrap, we dove back into the Brad Marchand conversation. How much is too much to pay the 37-year-old? Indisputably, we both think the Leafs should sniff around on the former Bruins captain. That said, he reportedly wants to chase the bag, and if the Leafs get involved in a bidding war, it could end up being bad news. Suffice it is to say, it will be fascinating to see what happens with the likes of Bennett and Marchand.
Meantime, the legendary Darryl Sutter is set to join us on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Talk then!
