After practicing in Boston on Wednesday, the Leafs have Thursday off as they get set to visit the New York Rangers Friday night.
Through two outings, they’re 2-0-0 on their 4-game road trip.
We covered a variety of topics to kick off the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Most importantly, we discussed the Ottawa Senators and the standings. As the days go by, it will be fascinating to forecast some potential first round opponents for the Maple Leafs. The Battle of Ontario sure would be sweet. That said, the Senators are currently on the outside looking in. They’re dropped 5 straight games.
Brought to you by Sobeys, we went over some of the news and notes from practice. In case you missed it, Craig Berube said ‘good news’ on Chris Tanev, but who the hell knows what that means when it comes from the Leafs. The veteran was ruled out day-to-day with an upper body issue. He won’t play against the Rangers. This should be fun to monitor. Furthermore, Berube downplayed the issue that caused William Nylander not to play in OT in Boston. Also, Max Pacioretty practiced, and it sounds like he could return against New York.
After, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, former Leafs President & General Manager Brian Burke dropped by the show. We talked everything from 4 Nations, Toronto’s trade deadline plan, and what it’s like navigating the deadline as a NHL Executive. Additionally, Burkie weighed in a bit on what he thinks the Leafs do with Ryan Reaves. The tough guy hasn’t played a game since February 4th.
T-minus 8 days away from the NHL trade deadline. Obviously, we’ll continue to monitor that. Join us on Friday at 11 AM ET for a full preview of Toronto’s weekend as they visit the Rangers and the Penguins. Additionally, we’ll play another edition of Take It OR Leaf It.
