Coming off their 4-3 win in Edmonton on Saturday night, the Leafs are in Calgary to tangle with the upstart Flames.
With that in mind, we kicked off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by dissecting the 10-game suspension handed out to Minnesota’s Ryan Hartman. Rosey thought it was a bit rich, but indisputably, this has been building up for Hartman for years. Luckily, Timothy Stutzle is fine and was in the lineup for Ottawa on Monday night when they took down Nashville. Incredibly, the Senators are now just two points behind the Leafs in the standings. The return of the Battle of Ontario in the Stanley Cup Playoffs would be something else. Travis Green has done an excellent job with that team.
Brought to you by Greta Bar, we broke down some of the news and notes from Monday’s practice. Firstly, Mitch Marner and Oliver Ekman-Larsson took maintenance days and didn’t skate. If Marner can’t go, Max Domi is expected to play on a line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies. It goes without saying but the Leafs need to find a way to get Domi going. He’s been mired in another long, long slump. Additionally, we talked about the crease. When will Anthony Stolarz make his officialy return? Our money is on Thursday night in Seattle. Also, we broke down Auston Matthews’ decision not to comment on the question about the Star-Spangled Banner getting booed in Canada recently. Good decision.
After that, made possible by Charm Diamond Centres, TSN’s Bryan Hayes dropped by the show. We got his thoughts on Matthews’ reign as captain thus far, the 4 Nations Face-Off, the cap going up, and what the Leafs should aim to do before the trade deadline.
Carter Hutton will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET for a full recap of Leafs/Flames. Plus, we’ll look ahead to Thursday night’s tilt in Seattle.
