Fresh off a second consecutive loss against Detroit, lucky for the Leafs, they don’t have to wait long to get back in action
Nashville’s in town as the Leafs have a rare back-to-back on home ice.
We kicked off the show by talking about what turned out to be an extremely tumultuous Thanksgiving for Toronto sports fans. The Leafs lost, the Blue Jays lost, the Bills lost. Talk about a trifecta. Luckily for the Maple Leafs, they have 79 games left to rectify the issue. The same cannot be said for the Toronto Blue Jays, who are now down 0-2 in the American League Championship Series. Translation: They’re in serious trouble.
We were bitterly honest on this show. Despite outshooting Detroit 40-15, it just wasn’t good enough for the Toronto Maple Leafs. On top of that, William Nylander needs to be way better. Even though he’s racked up four points, he’s been a ghost through three games. Simply put, he was awful on Monday against the Red Wings. After the game, Craig Berube didn’t mince words about his star player: “We need more out of him.” Meantime, Easton Cowan looked very solid in his NHL debut. The Knies-Matthews-Cowan trio generated plenty of scoring opportunities. That’s a massive positive. In general, Toronto’s top six has really struggled to start the campaign. Cowan looked comfortable. As per usual, so did Matthew Knies, who potted a goal and an assist. We gave him some love, too.
After that, Daily Faceoff’s Carter Hutton stopped by the show. He weighed in on the loss to Detroit, and most specifically, Nylander’s slow start. He compared him to Vladimir Tarasenko from his time in St. Louis. Additionally, Hutton helped tee up Cayden Primeau’s Maple Leafs debut. The 26-year-old, who the Leafs claimed off waivers from Carolina prior to the start of the season, will get the call against Nashville. We’ll see what he has!
To wrap, we offered off a mini game preview. It’s just the fourth game of the season but it really feels like the Leafs need this one.
At any rate, the next edition of Leafs Morning Take will come your way on Wednesday at 11 AM ET. We’ll offer up a thorough recap of Leafs/Predators. Also, former Leaf Hal Gill, who’s now a Nashville Predators Analyst, will drop by the show.
