According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet we’ve had a last minute change of heart when it comes to waiving Connor Carrick.
Chris goes on to speculate that an injury to one of the other Leafs defensemen could be keeping him around, but reality is that this is probably pointing to a trade.
With the Oilers picking up a 6th round pick for Jakub Jerabek, it seems just as likely that there could be a team interested in offering up something for Connor Carrick. It always seemed very likely that Connor Carrick would be claimed if he was put on waivers, so it’s entirely possible that a modest price is being paid by a team that wants to jump the queue and add him.
So let’s speculate. Which team is interest in a right shooting defenseman, who only carries a $1.3M cap hit that expires after this season? Ahhh, pretty much all of them. Cool. Cool. That narrows it down a lot.
Anyways, if you are fan of minor transactions, you’re in luck. The Leafs have you covered today, and your day job will suffer as this story develops.
