What’s with third stringer netminders stealing the spotlight in the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
In Toronto, we’re just hoping for a save on a nightly basis. That Calvin Pickard story sure is something.
We kicked off the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRNPetVfNeE">Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Tak</a>e by discussing the Edmonton/Vancouver series and how good it’s been so far. The two teams have been engaged, and so have the media and fan bases. It’s been awesome. Most importantly, in recent outings, it’s been a battle that’s featured two goalies that were in the AHL to start the season. Think about that. Adin Hill crawled so these guys could walk. Enough said.
Additionally, we broke John Tavares’ OT winner at the World Championship. Incredibly, Canada blew a 6-1 third period lead before Johnny Toronto sealed the deal in extra time. What made that story even more hilarious was Tavares’ post-game comments. The Leafs captain called it a “huge lesson early in the tournament.”
Too funny.
Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we sifted through the info regarding Tuesday’s announcement at Scotiabank Arena and phase No. 2 of the $350 million renovation getting underway. In essence, the goal is to enhance the in-arena experience for all venue tenants. Are beer prices about to go up? Uh oh.
Next, we discussed the fact that according to CapFriendly, the Leafs are only one of 11 teams right now with no dead cap next season (buyouts, retained salary, recapture penalty, &amp; overages). Flexibility is never a bad thing when you’re looking to get creative —especially on the trade market.
