For what it’s worth, Ryan Reaves will be in the lineup tonight as the Leafs visit the Philadelphia Flyers to kick off their annual mentors trip.
This should be fun. Time for fight No. 1 of the year?
Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. I kicked off the show by getting Hutts’ take on the team at the official midway point of the season. Unsurprisingly, he’s feeling good. After that, we dished on the mentors trip a bit. Most specifically, Hutts talked about his experience as a National Leaguer and how cool it was to take part in trips like this one.
After that, we discussed Jake McCabe landing on injured reserve. This wasn’t a surprising development. Back on Sunday night, the hard-nosed blue liner was forced to leave the game after hitting his head in a scrap with Garnet Hathaway. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Additionally, Max Domi was slapped for a $5000 fine for elbow Hathaway in that very same game. Message delivered and also received.
Then, we got into a full game preview. It looks like Conor Timmins will draw in for the injured McCabe and Reaves will enter for Nick Robertson. Meantime, Joseph Woll is expected to get the call. Over his past five appearances, he’s 4-1-0 to go along with a 2.42 goals against and .918 save percentage. We’ll see a different look to the middle six as Pacioretty shifts to the third line and Bobby McMann will play with Tavares and Nylander. I like it.
Brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, the great Eddie Belfour dropped by the show once again. It was a fun conversation. Firstly, we got his thoughts on cracking Toronto’s quarter century team. In addition to that, we asked him about what it’s like to play goalie in Toronto as well as playing for Pat Quinn and his similarities to Craig Berube. Lastly, Eddie, who won the Stanley Cup in 2003 with the Dallas Stars, dished on what the Leafs need to do to finally push through in the postseason.
Jay Rosehill will be back for the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we recap Leafs/Flyers plus also start to look ahead to Leafs/Canes on Thursday night.
