With the Maple Leafs about to embark on a four-game road trip that will take them through Western Canada, the team was forced to make a few roster changes this morning. Mark Arcobello, Josh Leivo and Rich Clune have been recalled from the Marlies.
Again – No Bozak, Lupul or Matthias at #Leafs practice. #Marlies recalls Leivo, Clune and Arcobello.— Rob Longley (@longleysunsport) February 8, 2016
An update is expected later today on Tyler Bozak, who left Saturday night’s game in Ottawa after taking a hit to the head. If Bozak has sustained a concussion, we might get a long look at Acrobello as there is no reason for the Leafs to rush the center back into the lineup. No word yet on why Matthias and Lupul were not with the team at practice but with the road trip upcoming, having the extra bodies around is a necessity.
With the boring old usual faces being the ones to get the call-up, it reassures the idea that we are not going to be seeing any of the exciting youngsters from the Marlies make their NHL debuts anytime soon. We may see guys like Nylander, Brown, Soshnikov etc.at some point this season but right now it looks like Babcock wants the veterans up to fill in.
Here’s a look at the lines Babcock had work together at what sounds like a high-intensity practice coming off of a lackluster performance Saturday night:
