Following an ugly night in Nashville, the Leafs will look to respond tonight when they host the Philadelphia Flyers at Scotiabank Arena.
Undoubtedly, Scott Laughton has had this date circled since he was dealt to Toronto a few weeks ago. The 30-year-old is set to play his former team for the first time.
Carter Hutton filled in for Jay Rosehill on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Firstly, Hutton dished on the TLN Nation Vacation. Without question, the former NHL goalie was one of the top stars on the trip. What a beauty.
After that, we got into Toronto’s signing of NCAA free agent centre Luke Haymes. The 21-year-old Junior out of Dartmouth inked a two-year deal that will start next season. For now, he’ll join the AHL’s Marlies on an amateur tryout for the rest of the year. Shoutout to Steven Ellis, who’s a Prospect Analyst for Daily Faceoff, for submitting this video breaking down what the Leafs are getting in Haymes.
Meantime, as mentioned, Scott Laughton will play the Fyers for the first time. Speaking of which, another former Flyer – Anthony Stolarz – will get the call in goal. Pontus Holmberg is projected to be a healthy scratch. The Leafs are two points back of the Panthers with one game in hand and two head-to-head matchups still left to go. Additionally, they’re two points up ahead Tampa for second. Both teams have 12 games remaining.
Courtesy GRETA BAR YYZ, former NHLer turned analyst Scott Hartnell stopped by. In addition to previewing the Leafs/Flyers game, Hartsy weighed in on Laughton’s slow start, what he can bring to the table, and what advice he would give his former teammate moving forward. Also, we got his thoughts on playing for Craig Berube in Philly and if he thinks Chief can take the Leafs to the next level in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Then, thanks to Charm Diamond Centres, American actor and huge Philadelphia Flyers fan David Boreanaz dropped by the show. We talked Laughton, Stolarz, Berube, and which NHL player he would love to play in a movie.
David Pagnotta will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take (11 AM ET). Join us for a full review of Leafs/Flyers. Plus, we’ll look to Toronto’s three game California swing.
