That’s why there’s no reason to overreact to Toronto’s 5-4 shootout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night at Scotiabank Arena.

We kicked off the Monday edition of Leafs Morning Take by giving our quick thoughts on the game. It’s always interesting doing a show after a Maple Leafs loss, never mind one that featured a brutal call that led to Toronto blowing a late two-goal lead. That said, we both agreed that it’s a lazy narrative to blame the officiating. As we’ve seen time and time again, the Leafs took their foot off the pedal. And the Canes made them pay.

Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on everything surrounding the shootout loss. Firstly, we covered the brutal hooking call on David Kampf that led to the 4-3 goal. After that, we got into Toronto’s struggling power play. Over the past nine games, its 1-for-24. Crazy, right?

Additionally, Iya Samsonov was solid once again notching 36 saves. Meantime, Nick Robertson scored in his return to the lineup and John Tavares had one goal and one assist. Furthermore, Jay Rosehill gave his thoughts on Evgeny Kuznetsov’s drawn-out shootout attempt. It took the Russian over 10 seconds to execute his attempt. Wild times.
