After a successful 2-0-1 road trip in California, the Leafs are back home and preparing for a big one tomorrow night against the Florida Panthers.
Suffice it to say, there certainly will be some scoreboard watching happening in these parts tonight. Florida visits Montreal and Tampa is on Long Island to tangle with the New York Islanders.
No April Fools’ Day jokes here. That said, we did kick off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by talking about pranking. Marc-Andre Fleury is known for his prank. He’s probably a big fan of April 1st. After we got that out of the way, we commented on the reported Rogers, NHL deal that will span 12 years and cost a whopping a $11 billion CAD. That’s a lot of dough, wow. Again, that’s no joke.
Meantime, as mentioned, the Leafs are back home and awaiting Florida’s arrival. We both agreed that Anthony Stolarz should start that game. Furthermore, the scoreboard watching will be fun. It’s always tough when your team’s not action. I guess we’re pulling for Montreal and New York tonight.
Then, courtesy GRETA BAR YYZ, former NHLer turned media personality Jordan Schmaltz dropped by the show for the very first time. Firstly, we talked about his short time with the Marlies, which including playing with Joseph Woll and playing for Sheldon Keefe. After that, we got into his time in St. Louis, which included playing with Craig Berube. Lastly, Jordan dished on the current team and weighed in on their chances of doing something substantial this spring. To wrap, he offered up a really good William Nylander story. Jordan’s brother Nick, who plays for Utah, is tight with Willy and his family.
Big one coming tomorrow. Carter Hutton will be in Jay Rosehill. Join us at 11 AM ET for a full preview of Toronto’s third of four meetings with Florida this season.
