Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll is the projected starter for Saturday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Woll was in the visiting net during Saturday’s morning skate via David Alter of The Hockey News. The 26-year-old has posted a 15-8-0 record with a .907 save percentage and 2.66 goals against average this season, and is the Maple Leafs’ No. 1 goaltender, while Anthony Stolarz recovers from a procedure to remove a loose body from his knee.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube elected to keep his lineup intact from Thursday’s win over the New Jersey Devils, with one small change: Ryan Reaves appears to be slotting in for Connor Dewar, based on line rushes posted by Alter. Reaves has posted two assists in 28 games this season.
“It’s a big game. Montreal. It’s a big rivalry, obviously. They got some physical players over there, so we’ve got to be physical tonight,” Berube said of Reaves’ inclusion via Sportsnet’s Luke Fox.
Fraser Minten hasn’t taken part in a practice since being called up from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, and Berube indicated he will need to take part in a team session before getting back into the lineup, while John Tavares is on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
Simon Benoit appears to be a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game. Benoit has struggled throughout the past two months, and Berube is electing to keep the Morgan Rielly-Philippe Myers tandem intact, while Jake McCabe and Chris Tanev form Toronto’s best defensive partnership. McCabe was outstanding in his return from a four-game injury-related absence in Thursday’s win over the Devils.
