Leafs linked to Derek Ryan from SHL

According to an article from the Denver Post, the Leafs are among three teams looking at acquiring the services of Derek Ryan, an American-born player who spent last season in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
I’ve heard that Colorado is in the negotiation stage with Ryan on a two-way contract for 2015-16 and I’m in the process of confirming it with the player or his agent. The Avs declined comment.
The Maple Leafs and Capitals are also in the mix.
Ryan is a 28-year-old center who notched 60 points in 55 games for Orebro HK. If he’s to be signed by either of the NHL clubs mentioned, he’ll likely start the year in the minors.
Perhaps more interestingly, the same article goes on to speculate over whether the Avs believe they can extend Ryan O’Reilly, a player on most Leafs fans’ wishlist for about two years now. Colorado would probably be seeking a top-four defenceman in return, so feel free to use your imagination on that one. O’Reilly has a six-million dollar cap hit through next season.
