In this monthly Leafs Milestone Watch column, we’ll be recapping the milestones of the previous month and setting up which milestones are likely (or even farfetched) to occur in the upcoming month.
Last Month
October 2021 saw a couple of prominent Leafs cross off important milestones.
On October 18th against the Rangers, @John Tavares notched his 200th point as a Leaf with a secondary assist on this @Michael Bunting goal:
The point moved Tavares into 75th place all-time in Leafs history. Right behind him in 76th place? Tie Domi with 196 points.
One week later on October 25th vs. the Hurricanes, @Auston Matthews scored the 200th goal of his career (and thus as a Leaf):
AUSTON MATTHEWS 🚨 FIRST OF THE SEASON! 200TH CAREER GOAL!
It took Matthews just 338 games, making him both the second-fastest player in Leafs history to notch 200 goals (Charlie Conacher, 317 games) and the youngest Leaf to ever accomplish the feat. Matthews also became the fastest American-born skater to hit the 200 goals mark. He is now 13th in all-time Leafs goal-scoring, tied with the same Conacher. Next up: Syl Apps (201) and Lanny McDonald (219).
This Month
Games Played
The Leafs play 14 games in the month of November, which means that five games played milestones are within reach.
TJ Brodie – 700 NHL GP (1 game away) – Earliest he could reach: Nov 2 vs. VGK
Pierre Engvall – 100 NHL/Leafs GP (1 game away) – Earliest he could reach: Nov 2 vs. VGK
Jack Campbell – 100 NHL GP (7 games away) – Earliest he could reach: Nov 13 vs. BUF
Alex Kerfoot – 300 NHL GP (13 games away) – Earliest he could reach: Nov 26 vs. SJS
MILESTONE OF THE MONTH: Jason Spezza – 1200 NHL GP (13 games away) – Earliest he could reach: Nov 26 vs. SJS
Goals
John Tavares – 100 Leafs goals (5 goals away) – Prediction: Nov 18 vs. NYR
Assists
Nothing within reach, unless you think Alex Kerfoot (100 NHL assists) has 13 assists in him in November? I do not.
Points
Ondrej Kase – 100 NHL points (1 point away) – Prediction: Nov 4 vs. TBL
Wins
Jack Campbell – 50 NHL wins (7 wins away) – With Mrazek back and the Leafs likely shifting back to a 50/50 split for starts, it would take an almost perfect month for Campbell to hit 50 career wins in November. But don’t count him out: he’s gone on runs for the Leafs before. Extremely bold prediction: Nov 28 vs. ANA.
