Leafs Sign First Rounder Rasmus Sandin to Entry Level Contract

Jul 15, 2018, 23:07 EDT
You thought you could try and hide this signing by doing it late on a Sunday night when everyone was sleeping or spending time with friends and family, didn’t you Kyle?
Well, jokes on you, I don’t have a life.
The Leafs signed their 2018 first round pick Rasmus Sandin to his three year, entry level contract.
Sandin will get the max amount of salary that one can get on an ELC, with most of it being base salary. The key to this is that there is no performance bonuses, which would be the only thing that would really hurt the Leafs salary cap.
Sandin was picked 29th overall after the Leafs traded down from their 25th pick. Their was a bit of criticism with the pick, as Joe Veleno was still on the board, but Sandin is no slouch either, as the left shot defenseman put up 45 points in 51 games with the Greyhounds.
Chances of him making the team this year are slim, but this signing will probably give the Leafs that cheap depth once the cap crunch begins, especially with no concerns about performance bonuses putting them over the cap.
