Leafs trade Polak, Spaling to Sharks for 2017, 2018 2nd Round picks, Raffi Torres

Feb 22, 2016, 08:54 ESTUpdated:
Mondays, am I right?
A little after 8:30 on Monday morning, the Leafs announced they’d traded two of their upcoming UFA assets to San Jose- Roman Polak and Nick Spaling- in exchange for a second-round pick in each of 2017 and 2018, as well as Raffi Torres.
Having already acquired 12 picks for the 2016 draft, it looks like the Leafs are now nearing the end of picking up assets for this year, and now are looking more for the future. (See more from Ryan Fancey here.)
Additionally, the Leafs announced shortly after they don’t really want Raffi Torres, but rather are just looking to eat a bit of his salary. Torres stays with the San Jose Barracuda, for now, in a similar vein to how Matt Frattin is still with the Marlies despite being traded to Ottawa.
More on this trade later, of course, but at first glance this seems to be a very, very nice return.
