The Toronto Maple Leafs’ issues with inconsistency are running up against an otherwise solid track record as a road favourite.
The Maple Leafs are -125 away favourites while the Vancouver Canucks are a +105 home underdog with a 6.5-goal total on the NHL odds for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Toronto is 6-3 as an away favourite this season with the total finishing OVER in six of those nine games at online betting sites and the Maple Leafs are also 7-3 in their last 10 away games against the Pacific Division.
The Canucks are a home underdog for only the second time this season even though they are 9-0 in their last nine home games against Atlantic Division teams.

The Maple Leafs are 14-13-4 this season, including a 5-3-0 mark since head coach Sheldon Keefe was appointed on November 21. Both Auston Matthews’ and John Tavares’ lines accounted for two goals apiece during last Saturday’s 5-2 win against the defending Stanley Cup champion, as Toronto did a better job of capitalizing on being fifth in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (53.23 percent). The Maple Leafs are 11th in the league in goals scored (3.19 per game) and 23rd in goals against (3.26). On special teams, the power play ranks 10th (20.9 percent) and the penalty killing ranks 25th (76.5).
Goaltender Frederik Andersen is 14-7-3 with a 2.54 goals-against average and .918 save percentage this season, including a 2.40 GAA and .923 save percentage on the road.
The Canucks are 15-11-4 this season, but are only 3-5 across their last eight home games with the total finishing OVER five times. Vancouver has a fairly potent attack led by centers Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson and ranks 13th in the NHL in five-on-five shot-attempt percentage (50.76 percent). The Canucks are eighth in goals scored (3.33 per game) and 17th in goals against (3.00). On special teams, the Vancouver power play ranks fourth (27.2 percent) and the penalty killing ranks 15th (81.4).
Jacob Markstrom, who is 8-7-3 with a 2.70 goals-against average and .913 save percentage, will likely make his first start for Vancouver since December 1 after taking a leave following his father’s death. Markstrom has a 2.81 GAA and .905 save percentage at home.
The Maple Leafs face the Calgary Flames on Thursday and the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.
