In this monthly Maple Leafs Milestone Watch column, we’ll be recapping the milestones of the previous month and setting up which milestones are likely (or even farfetched) to occur in the upcoming month.
Last Month
January was not nearly as disrupted by COVID as December was, with the Leafs only having a couple of games rescheduled for February.
Notable milestones hit last month:
- John Tavares – 900 NHL GP
The Leafs captain got this milestone out of the way early, in the Leafs’ first game of the month against Ottawa. He celebrated by picking up the primary assist on this @William Nylander goal, which was the final tally in a 6-0 victory.
- Alexander Kerfoot – 100 NHL Assists
Earlier in that same game, Kerfoot had the second three-assist night of his career with helpers on goals from T.J. Brodie (shorthanded), @Ilya MIkheyev, and @William Nylander’s first score of the night, the latter of which was the 100th of Kerfoot’s career.
New year, same style 😎 #LeafsForever
- Ilya Mikheyev – 100 NHL/Leafs GP
Mikheyev skated in the 100th game of his career in a wild one against St. Louis on January 15th, where he celebrated the occasion by scoring one of the worst game-winning goals you have ever seen.

- William Nylander – 300 NHL/Leafs Points
Nylander’s 300th point came January 19th, firing a ridiculous no-look, spin-around pass to Mitch Marner for his first powerplay goal in over 100 games.
And of course, he did it in 𝓈𝓉𝓎𝓁𝑒 ✨
- Auston Matthews – 400 NHL/Leafs Points
I had this pegged as the “Longshot of the Month” in last month’s milestone recap, as he came into the month 16 points away from the 400 point plateau. Matthews entered the last game of January four points back of the mark, then proceeded to put up a hat trick and an assist to put the milestone away. His 400th came on this high-difficulty empty netter:
AUSTON MATTHEWS 🚨🚨🚨 HAT-TRICK! 400 CAREER POINTS!
Matthews became the fastest Leaf to hit the 400 point mark, doing it in 372 games.
Auston Matthews is the quickest #LeafsForever player in franchise history to reach the 400 point mark. Matthews accomplished this feat in only 372 games. The previous record was held by #Leafs legend Syl Apps who got his 400th point in his 387th game.
This Month
It’s going to be a busy February for the Leafs who have 12 games on the books in a month that also contains an all-star break. Here’s what we could reasonably expect from a milestones perspective this month:
