It appears that Wayne Simmonds has gotten the vote to be Toronto’s nominee for the King Clancy Trophy.
A King Clancy Trophy nominee is someone who “best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.” One player from each of the 32 NHL teams gets chosen before a committee of NHL executives, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly.
The finalists and a winner will demonstrate “clear and measurable positive impact on the community, investment of time and resources, commitment to a particular cause or community, commitment to the League’s community initiatives, creativity of programming, and use of influence; engagement of others.”
First place gets $25,000 and the other two finalists get $5000, each for their charity (or charities) of choice.
