The Toronto Maple Leafs recently had a Halloween party and fans got to see some of the festivities through the players and their significant others posts on social media.
Congregating at what appears to be the Red Bull Gaming Hub located in downtown Toronto, the majority of the player’s costumes made the rounds on Wednesday. Among the highlights were Auston Matthews dressed up as Darth Vader, Jake McCabe as Squints from The Sandlot, and David Kampf as Dumbledore.
One of the standouts was Morgan Rielly and his wife Tessa Virtue who went as Beetlejuice and Lydia respectively. He spoke with reporters before Thursday’s morning skate and said there were a lot of great costumes at what was a fun night for the team.
“It took about an hour of makeup. Not too bad,” he said on how long it took for him and Virtue to get their costumes together. “There were some good ones. There’s always good ones. I know Auston’s a big Star Wars guy, so he was no surprise as Darth Vader. The Swedes who were all different houses of Harry Potter, I thought that was good.”
Although not a big fan of Halloween even dating back to his childhood, William Nylander still had a good time dressed up as a hip-hop rapper. He said his favourite costume of the bunch was Nick Robertson and his girlfriend who went as Dwight Schrute and Angela Martin from The Office.
Chris Tanev, who dressed up as a pumpkin along with his wife Kendra, felt that Ryan Reaves had the best costume of the lot. The enforcer went as Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett from Bad Boys.
“The younger guys probably didn’t have a clue what he was, but I was old enough to know. I think he was pretty creative with what he did,” Tanev said on Reaves. “The scene when he’s in his boss’s house and pops an ecstasy by accident. But I think he did a great job with that.”
The Maple Leafs play host to the Seattle Kraken for a Halloween showdown this season.
