Love this clip of William Villeneuve. Good hands and great work with tight pivots/turns to evade traffic. #2020NHLDraft | @FCHockey

After a number of picks where the Leafs have selected from overseas, at pick 122 they landed in North America and selected William Villeneuve from the Saint John Sea Dogs.

So Villeneuve is an offensive defenseman to say the least. He led the Sea Dogs in scoring last season and so far in two games this year he’s picked up an assist.
At 6’1 he’s got NHL size, and while Villeneuve was ranked by some scouting agencies, others like Elite Prospects had him on their do not draft list citing his lack of speed and agility and absence of standout skills compared to his peers.
Other agencies like Future Considerations had him as a potential second round pick, citing things like his passing and playmaking abilities. For a fourth round pick there are bound to be a few more concerns attached to a player and taking a chance on Villeneuve doesn’t seem like a bad idea. Of course we might be haunted by Ty Tullio still being on the board at the time of the pick.
