The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday that they had signed forward Tinus Luc Koblar to a three-year entry-level contract. No further details were announced.
Koblar was originally selected by the Leafs in the second round of the 2025 Draft (64th overall) marking their first selection from that year. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound centre posted eight goals and 21 points for Leksands IF of the Swedish Junior League during his draft year, which showing continual, major improvement as a scorer during the second half of the year. Koblar came from an athletic family given that his parents were Olympic athletes, yet it was his size and knack for competing in the dirty areas that caught the attention of the Leafs’ head of scouting, Mark Leach.
The early returns of the pick have shown some promise as his post-draft year saw him take a step forward in his development. Koblar wrapped up his first SHL season by appearing in 47 games, recording eight goals and six assists. His 14 points ranked 10th for most points among all skaters on Leksands IF. Where he really shone was during the 2026 World Hockey Championships, as his nine points (six goals, three assists) in 10 games helped guide his country of Norway to a bronze medal finish, which included a defeat of Canada in the third-place game.
Koblar did sign a one-year contract with Rögle BK of the SHL on May 22, indicating that the Leafs are not expecting him to make the move to North America until the 2027-28 season at the earliest. It is certainly beneficial that he continues to get comfortable playing at the pro ranks in Sweden before joining the organization full-time, since he is far from a finished product at this stage.
“I developed my game a lot looking back to the start of the season. My game got a little bit more professional because I played in the SHL,” he said to TSN’s Mark Masters when reflecting on his season. “You need to take responsibility for the puck and do everything a bit more faster, and a bit more better. So I grew a lot during this season. I think it was positive for my mindset and how I look at myself and look at my future career.”
