If you couldn’t get enough of Maple Leafs playoff disappointments during Amazon’s All or Nothing documentary, there’s more where that’s coming from. Faceoff: Inside the NHL is set to premiere on October 4th before the 2024-25 season gets underway.
Faceoff: Inside the NHL is Amazon Prime’s NHL follow-up to the All or Nothing documentary on the North Division Leafs, their notable playoff implosion against the Montreal Canadiens and the equally traumatic trade deadline where Kyle Dubas bet heavily on Nick Foligno.
Perhaps this next go-around at following NHL players will provide something that has been missing from the more team-specific documentaries of NHL past. This time a number of players have been selected from around the league to be documented, giving it much more of a Drive to Survive feel (understandably since this documentary is from the same producers) and hopefully at least some of the players involved will be comfortable showing their true selves rather than the NHL media-trained version. William Nylander and his comfort with being himself in all situations should shine through here as will some of some of the other more outspoken players in this documentary like Matthew Tkachuk, David Pastrnak, and Leon Draisaitl.
In addition to those players, Amazon is also following Connor McDavid, Jacob Trouba, Quinn Hughes, Gabriel Landeskog, Filip Forsberg, Jack Eichel, and Jeremy Swayman. The extent that Swayman’s contract discussions are covered will be interesting, as will getting the Bruins side of the Toronto/Boston series from Pastrnak and Swayman.
Nylander was quick to sign on the series according to his press appearance Monday, noting he has always been a fan of behind the scenes shows. The focus of the first episode will be on the Leafs/Bruins series and capturing Nylander and Pastrnak throughout.
“I thought it was a lot of fun… up until the last part,” Nylander said.
This forces a choice for Leafs fans if they want the Nylander content they’ll have to relive another first round exit.
