Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander and Toronto Sceptres forward Sarah Nurse teamed up in a PlayStation commercial released on Friday.
The commercial, part of PlayStation’s ‘Play Has No Limits’ campaign, starts with the two star players walking along a street with their hockey gear in hand as they stumble upon a street hockey game. The kids plead with them to join in which Nylander and Nurse gladly accept the invitation.
This game quickly catches the attention of the neighbourhood as the adults drop whatever they are doing to watch while a few grab some sticks to join the contest. People of all different races and backgrounds were enamoured by what was happening, which helped with the commercial’s goal of promoting inclusivity and the power of sports to bring people together.
Nylander and Nurse are the best players in this game as each has their chance to deke out multiple defenders before scoring. The game nearly ends in disaster when Nylander accidentally shoots the ball wide of the net, hitting a lady walking into her house. When she turns around to find out who did it, the whole neighbourhood quickly squares the blame on him including Nurse, prompting Nylander to say “Sarah, are you serious?” Thankfully for him, the lady smiles and reveals a missing tooth before eagerly joining in the festivities to end the commercial.
This PlayStation commercial is Nylander’s latest venture. He has previously done spots for Sonnet Insurance and Rogers while riding the TTC. He has also done numerous model photos for numerous outlets, including Sharp. He even got a prominent role in Amazon’s debut season of Faceoff: Inside The NHL, where he was one of the primary figures in the first episode.
Nurse has also appeared in plenty of commercial spots over the years which includes Tim Hortons, RBC, and SportChek. She has become a prominent figure in hockey on and off the ice, ranging from appearing on the cover of NHL 23 alongside Trevor Zegras to being a leading advocate for inclusion and representation in the sport.
Nylander and Nurse are each having strong starts to the season for their respective teams. The Leafs star forward is currently second on the team in scoring with 43 points (23 goals and 20 assists) in 39 games played. The Sceptres’ star is currently tied with Renata Fast for the team lead in points with six (three goals and three assists) through the first seven games.
