The Toronto Marlies announced on Friday that they have inked captain Logan Shaw to a two-year AHL extension.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed by the team but they did reveal that the contract extension will kick in for the 2025-26 season.
The 32-year-old winger is in his third season with the Marlies where he has been among their most productive players throughout his time in Toronto. During the 2022-23 season, Shaw was selected for the AHL All-Star Game and was the first member of the Marlies to be the recipient of the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award as the player who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey. That same season also saw him named the team’s captain on December 7, 2022, and he has held onto the role ever since.
In 160 games with the Marlies heading into their Friday tilt against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Shaw has recorded 144 points (54 goals and 90 assists) while adding 12 points (five goals and seven assists) in 10 playoff games. The Cape Brenton native also appeared in his 700th career professional hockey game on December 7th against the Laval Rocket.
“He’s been really, really, good. He’s taken another step in leadership and how he goes about his business. He’s out there trying to make everybody better and he’s really played extremely well,” head coach John Gruden said of his captain. “His game is at an all-time high for me right now in all aspects. We’re going to need that and it’s exciting for us as a staff and for our team for him to be playing at the level he’s playing at.”
So far this season, Shaw is third on the Marlies in scoring with 17 points (three goals and 14 assists) in 23 games played behind only Alex Nylander and Alex Steeves.
Originally selected 76th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2011 NHL Draft, he appeared in 232 NHL games split between the Panthers, Anaheim Ducks, Montreal Canadiens, Winnipeg Jets, and Ottawa Senators. He recorded 39 points (16 goals and 23 assists) in that span while also going scoreless in 15 career NHL playoff games.
