Marner laid an egg in what could end up being his final home game as a Maple Leaf: Leafs Morning Take

Well, that was a joke.
In arguably the franchise’s biggest game in 20+ years, the Leafs no showed and are now one loss away from the season being done.
Teams who win Game 5 when tied 2-2 win 79% of series.
Think about that. The uphill battle will begin on Friday night in Sunrise.
At any rate, David Pagnotta filled in as co-host for Jay Rosehill on the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by our giving our initial thoughts on Wednesday night’s abomination. Long story short, we both think the series is done. That said, there’s still time for the Leafs to suck us back in. This is headed for seventh heaven, right?
After that, we broke down everything from the post-game commentary to the on-ice product. Full disclosure: Neither was pretty. It’s perplexing that this team – once again – was unable to rise to the occasion in a pressure cooker situation. They didn’t even show up. Along those lines, Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews were arguably Toronto’s two worst players. That’s no exaggeration, either. Like, how does that happen? Any way you slice it, that may have been Marner’s final home game as a Maple Leaf. What a way to potentially go out. Additionally, we talked about the goaltending and Toronto’s lack of desperation, urgency, and killer instinct. Honestly, it was the same conversation that we’ve been having for years now.
Brought to you by GRETA BAR YYZ, former NHL Anthony Stewart, who’s co-hosting Leafs game day coverage on TSN 1050 dropped by to weigh in on that joke of a hockey game. Understandably so, Stew was critical of the big boys —namely Matthews and Marner. On top of that, he did tap his cap to Florida a bit, too. Having said all that, he still gives them a shot of coming back. We’ll see what happens in Game 6, I guess.
Then, for the CRISPI HOT TAKE OF THE DAY, presented by the Ninja Crispi 4-in-1 Portable Glass Air Fryer, Producer Vick thinks LEAFS IN SEVEN. Unfortunately, we both disagreed. Love the passion, though.
To wrap, made possible by Charm Diamond Centres, Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green stopped by to give his quick thoughts on Game 5. Truthfully, we spent most of the interview discussing the Battle of Ontario and Greenie’s experience taking part in it from the other side. Ottawa played well, but at the end of the day, the Leafs got some bounces and found a way to get the job done.
Jay Rosehill will be back in the mix for the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Join us at 11 AM ET as we tee up Game 6. It’s do or die time for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
