Kirk Muller’s time in Toronto was shot. He played only two seasons between 1995 and 1997, but he made his impact felt in his short time.
Muller had a storied career of 1349 games that saw him score 959 points and 24 years ago today, he notched his 500th career assist with the club in a 5-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.
Before coming to Toronto, Muller had spent parts of 10 years with the New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens before landing on Long Island. There, however, he fell out of favour with the club and management and the disgruntled team barred the disgruntled player from the team.
Eventually, Muller was shipped out at a discount in a three team trade that saw he and Don Beaupre go to the Maple Leafs, Martin Straka, Ken Belanger and the rights to Bryan Berard go to the Islanders, while Damian Rhodes and the rights to Wade Redden go to the Ottawa Senators.
The aforementioned Muller made the most of his 102 games in Toronto, scoring 29 goals and 62 points including three goals and five points in six playoff games in 1995-96.
The then 31-year-old was shipped to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Jason Podollan.
