It has been a hot minute since the name Dave Bolland has been mentioned around here, but today is an important day for his Toronto Maple Leafs lore.

After all, today in 2013 the Leafs acquired him from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a second and fourth-round picks in the 2013 draft and a fourth-round pick in 2014.

To say Bolland’s time in Toronto would be an understatement.

He played a whopping… *checks notes* ….23 games for the Leafs in 2013-14. The season was mired due to a severed tendon on the outside of his left ankle — an injury suffered in November that held him out until the final games of the season in March. While he did score eight goals and 12 points in 23 games, the Leafs and Bolland were unable to agree on a new contract and he subsequently signed with the Florida Panthers.

The time he spent in Toronto was short, the trade was evidently a big flop and the Leafs arguably overpaid for a bottom-six player.

His career didn’t last much longer as he only played for two seasons in Florida after signing a five-year, $27.5-million contract. He was traded to Arizona, but hasn’t played a game since December 2015 due to a back injury.
