It was 20 years ago today that the Toronto Maple Leafs eliminated the Ottawa Senators from playoff contention.

Down 2-0 in game six of their first-round series against the Ottawa Senators after early goals from Joe Juneau and Igor Kravchuk, things weren’t looking good for Toronto.

Ottawa had gotten a hold of their 2-0 lead on the brink of elimination in thanks to Kravchuk’s goal at 3:59 in the second period.

But what transpired was a series of unfortunate events for the Senators. At 4:11, Steve Thomas got the Leafs back into the game. Three minutes later, Thomas found Mats Sundin who tied the game at 2.

Just over three more minutes later, at the 10:40 mark, Sergei Berezin got the Leafs a 3-2 lead and the rest was history. Wendel Clark got another goal for good measure at the 18:47 mark of that second frame.

The Leafs were led offensively through the series by Steve Thomas, who scored six goals and eight points, and Mats Sundin, who put up three goals and seven points in the series.

Toronto went on to square up against the New Jersey Devils in the second round, who they would fall to in six games.
