After a two-day break, the Leafs are set to return to action when they visit the New York Rangers for a Friday night tilt at the world’s most famous arena.
It was a jam-packed opening block on the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Firstly, we reminisced about the 2010 Olympics. TODAY marks the 15-year anniversary of Sidney Crosby’s golden goal. Time flies!
After that, we hit some breaking news as the Leafs placed Max Pacioretty on IR —meaning he will miss at least the next seven days. The veteran winger hasn’t played since before the 4 Nations break. He pulled up lame last week prior to practice as the Leafs prepared for their return.
Additionally, we discussed Nick Robertson indirectly rescinding his trade request on Wednesday. From what we gather, Robertson made the comments off-camera in a mini scrum with Sportsnet’s Luke Fox and The Athletic’s Josh Kloke. When asked about the trade deadline, Robertson shrugged it off saying, “I want to be here, so I’m fine. I don’t think about that stuff.”
Thanks to Tim Hortons, we previewed Toronto’s second of three regular season meetings with New York. Joseph Woll’s under the weather, so Anthony Stolarz will get the call in goal. Also, Phil Myers will draw in for Chris Tanev, who’s considered day to day with an upper body injury. Over and above that, Ryan Reaves will draw in for Alex Steeves. Do we see Round 2 between Reaves and Rempe? Hmm.
Powered by Greta Bar, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos joined us. As one would expect, we went heavy on the trade deadline —dissecting Mikko Rantanen, Brayden Schenn, Luke Schenn, and Scott Laughton. Additionally, we got Kyper’s thoughts on Pacioretty landing on IR and the Robertson story, too.
Brought to you by Firehouse Subs, we wrapped by playing another edition of TAKE IT or LEAF IT. We debated whether we thought Toronto would acquire a RHD, if both Holmberg and Robertson will remain Leafs past next Friday’s deadline, and if the Leafs will hang onto the Atlantic Division crown.
The clock continues to tick. If the Leafs make any moves this weekend, we’ll break it down on Monday’s show (11 AM ET). Also, we’ll recap Toronto’s two games against the Rangers and Penguins. Also, we’ll preview Monday night’s tilt at home on PRIME vs. the San Jose Sharks.
