The injury bug has officially moved on from goaltending and defense and reached the Leafs forwards. After Jarnkrok last week, tonight Nick Robertson is the next player to leave the game with an injury.

While it was certainly a mismatch and a penalty, it didn’t seem malicious by Matt Roy and was just an interference battle that went very wrong for Robertson.

Unfortunately Robertson is no stranger to injuries in short career and shoulder injuries are seldom a short turnaround.

The Leafs presently still have 12 healthy forwards on their roster and this could lead to Malgin and Simmonds regularly seeing time in the lineup until Robertson and/or Jarnkrok are ready to return. The Leafs could also recall the recently demoted Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, or give a look to one of Adam Gaudette, Alex Steeves, or possibly even Joey Anderson to see if they are bottom six fit.

As for who gets to play up with in the top six, the Leafs have interesting options in Denis Malgin and Pierre Engvall, both of whom might be a better fit than Alex Kerfoot at this point.

We’ll likely know the full extent of Robertson’s injury in the next couple of days, but to paraphrase Sheldon Keefe’s favourite line: “He’s going to miss some time.”
