The 4 Nations is down to 2 Nations.
Suffice it is to say, Thursday night at TD Garden in Boston will be electric as two storied rivals will duke it out for the tournament title.
It will be Canada and the United States squaring off for the championship.
That’s obviously where the conversation started on the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. The hockey world’s buzzing about Saturday night, and lucky for all of us, we’ll get a sequel for all the marbles. We didn’t discuss this on the show, but with Charlie McAvoy ruled out, the American are bringing in Quinn Hughes. What. A. Ringer.
At any rate, we did a deep dive into Canada’s 5-3 win over Finland. Unsurprisingly, it was the big boys who led the way. Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby each notched a goal and an assist while Nathan MacKinnon chipped in with two goals. After that, we spent a lot of time discussing Toronto’s Big 3 and how underwhelming they’ve been in this tournament this far. Nylander finished with two points – both assists – in his three outings. Hopefully, these guys are getting it out of their system now. Wishful thinking.
Brought to you by Charm Diamond Centres, Canadian hockey legend and former Toronto Maple Leaf Paul Henderson dropped by the show. He was awesome. We discussed the 4 Nations, his iconic Summit Series goal in 1972, and his experience playing for the Maple Leafs. He had a great quote about Harold Ballard in there.
Be sure to join us for the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take (11 AM ET) as we continue to get you set for Thursday night’s championship game. Also, Ryan Getzlaf – another Canadian hockey legend – will drop by the show.
