Quinn Hughes latest NHL talent to be linked to Toronto in free agency

Last night, the Vancouver Canucks got a taste of their latest hot young star. In his first NHL game, Quinn Hughes dazzled the crowd on nearly every shift.
Unfortunately for those in Vancouver, he’s already being rumoured to sign a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs at his earliest possible date, according to anonymous sources. Whether the Leafs will choose to offer sheet him or he’ll just sign in unrestricted free agency, all the signs are pointing to Hughes being a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
And it’s not without reason. Quinn, as you can see in the cover picture, grew up a massive Maple Leafs fan, alongside his brothers. As we’ve seen in the past, every Leafs fan growing up is destined to one day play for the team. Mitch Marner, Connor Brown and John Tavares are just three examples that prove this theory 100% accurate.
His first NHL point in his debut was a doozy: picking up an assist after undressing the entire Kings roster.
But it seems like a forgone conclusion he probably only has 3-7 years left before he’s wearing a Leafs’ uniform.
See this great effort from Hughes in OT?
Quinn Hughes - @_EPettersson - @BBoeser16 Yeah, we could get used to this.
Well, he could be setting up another Swede in just a few seasons.
Hughes, who grew up in Toronto for much of his young life, actually was part of the billet family for one William Nylander when he was first drafted.
Indeed, growing up in the Hughes household it was all Leafs, all the time, and Jim’s job with Toronto’s NHL outfit provided his young boys a unique glimpse into the lives of big-leaguers. The family housed players, including forward William Nylander upon his arrival in Toronto.
Enjoy him while you got him, Vancity.
No word yet on Jack Hughes’ future, but we should get a clearer picture once the 2019 NHL Entry Draft Lottery occurs on April 9. Although from the aforementioned article, the younger Hughes has already seen plenty of ice time playing with John Tavares.
Jack has met Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby – one of his childhood idols – on a few occasions, and this past summer skated alongside NHLers such as Jason Spezza, Taylor Hall and John Tavares.
