Report: Mark Giordano intrigued by Jets, Oilers, Hurricanes, Rangers

Mark Giordano remains unsigned as the 2024-25 NHL season gets underway but he still wants to return to the league and is reportedly intrigued by a quartet of contending teams.
Giordano last played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2023-24 and if he signed with an NHL club, he’d become the oldest active player in the league. The 41-year-old considers the Edmonton Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Jets and Winnipeg Jets intriguing destinations, The Athletic’s Chris Johnston and Pierre LeBrun report.
Last season, Giordano recorded three goals and nine points in 46 games for the Maple Leafs, a sharp decline from his previous form. Giordano was a healthy scratch for the entire seven-game series against the Boston Bruins and the Maple Leafs elected to let him test free agency at the end of the year.
Giordano won the Norris Trophy in 2019 with the Calgary Flames and was a congenial presence with the media during his tenure with the Maple Leafs, while being considered a mentor to many of the Maple Leafs’ young, ascending defencemen after being acquired in a trade with the Seattle Kraken at the 2021-22 NHL trade deadline.
A veteran of 1,148 NHL games, Giordano is the NHL’s all-time blocked shots leader with 2,164 blocks — although San Jose Sharks defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic is within strike range with 2,144 blocks at the time of this filing.
Giordano has appeared in three All-Star games throughout his career. It would be a fitting end to his decorated career if he helped a team win a championship and the Oilers are reportedly an attractive destination for several unsigned free agents, including Kevin Shattenkirk.
Former Maple Leafs defenceman John Klingberg is also looking to resume his career, The Athletic reports. Klingberg isn’t linked to any suitors at the moment and struggled defensively before being placed on long-term injured reserve on December 7, recording five assists in 14 games for the Maple Leafs during the 2023-24 season.
