After playing four games for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the NHL playoff bubble last season forward Nick Robertson is expected to get every opportunity to crack the roster at the outset of the season ahead. Robertson scored 55 goals and put up 86 points in 46 games for the OHL Peterborough Petes last season, after getting taken in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft. The forward then scored once in four games with the Maple Leafs during their abbreviated stay in the NHL playoff bubble and is on USA Hockey&#8217;s roster for the upcoming World Juniors tournament.
That has Robertson listed at +3500 at <a href="https://www.oddsshark.com/sportsbook-review?utm_source=TheLeafsNation&amp;utm_medium=Referral&amp;utm_campaign=Editorial">sports betting sites</a> on the 2021 Calder Trophy odds.
Still, Robertson finds himself trailing the favorites on those <a href="https://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/odds?utm_source=TheLeafsNation&amp;utm_medium=Referral&amp;utm_campaign=Editorial">NHL odds</a>, with New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin set as +175 chalk and teammate Alexis Lafreniere listed at +375. The 24-year-old Shesterkin will compete with Alexander Georgiev for the Rangers&#8217; starting netminder job with veteran Henrik Lundqvist now off the roster. Shesterkin played a dozen games for the Rangers last season, going 10-2 with a .932 save percentage over that span.
Lafreniere, meanwhile, was the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, putting up 112 points in 52 games in his final season with the QMJHL Rimouski Oceanic and 10 points in five games for Canada in the World Juniors tournament en route to winning most valuable player.
Kirill Kaprizov, set to finally make his debut for the Minnesota Wild this season, is then at +400 on the Calder Trophy odds, with the Florida Panthers&#8217; Grigori Denisenko also en route to North America from the KHL and set at +1000 to be the league&#8217;s top rookie this season. Quinton Byfield of the Los Angeles Kings, the 2020 draft&#8217;s second overall pick, is at +1200. 
Others around Robertson on the board are Alex Turcotte at +1400, Bowen Byram at +1500, Evan Bouchard and Tim Stuetzle at +1800, and Ilya Sorokin at +2500. The 25-year-old Sorokin will be looking to pass Semyon Varlamov as the New York Islanders&#8217; starting goalie.
