It’s finally here. A day filled with expectations that anything is possible, but given the NHL’s recent track record, a day much more likely to be formulaic, with each team making a somewhat predictable selection and our big moments will consist of teams moving up or down a couple of picks in exchange for a second or third round pick. It still will have some excitement. It will still be a chance to have numerous new trade rumours dumped on us. It will still set the table for free agency. It’s fun, but maybe our expectations need to be lower.

In advance of this day we’ve put together a ton of draft related content on TLN since the Leafs return to play was cut short. And if you are looking for something to pass the time until the draft or feel the need to be brought up to speed, this is the post for you. Enjoy the link dump.

First of all, here are the picks the Leafs own:

Expect a lot more from The Leafs Nation in the next couple of days, as we attempt to break down in detail each of the Leafs picks, and hopefully we’ll have the opportunity to do a little trade analysis as well.

While Kyle Dubas has strongly hinted that the 1st round pick tonight is available, it remains to be seen if there will be any takers on it. Or any takers that can work within the salary cap restraints that the Leafs are operating under. The most likely outcome is that the Leafs will be making their pick tonight, and we’ll potentially have a new top prospect to fawn over.

As for the other trade pieces, nothing was mentioned of Alexander Kerfoot or Andreas Johnsson during Kyle Dubas’ media availability on Monday, and while Dubas said he expects Andersen to be the Leafs starting goaltender next season, that is more or less GM speak that his peers need to improve their offers in the coming days. Dubas has always been more active on Day 2 of the draft when it comes to trades, so if anything materializes tonight it would probably specifically involve a first round pick.
