This week in 1926 (Nov. 3), the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Ace Bailey, who had been playing for the Peterborough Seniors in the OHA-Sr. the prior year.

In his first year with the Leafs, Bailey scored 15 goals and 28 points in 42 games. Over his full, eight-year career, Bailey scored 111 goals and 192 points in 316 games.

He led the league in goals and points in 1928-29 scoring 22 goals and 32 points in 44 games and the next year, totalled 43 points in 43 games.

Bailey’s career ended on Dec. 12, 1933 when he was hit from behind by Boston Bruins defenceman Eddie Shore. Bailey hit his head on the ice fracturing his skull and never played again.
